For residents living in Finchley & Golders Green, Westminster is only a quick tube journey away. However, in my first year as an MP I soon realised of how few constituents had actually ever visited.
I set out to change this and I started to develop an idea that would give constituents an opportunity to visit. That is when I came up with ‘Meet the Street’. I decided I would invite a cluster of streets, often where there looked to be a community, to come to Westminster to meet me and their neighbours and see Parliament – often for the first time.
Since I began hosting this event in the Jubilee Room, which is just off Westminster Hall, residents have continued to value the opportunity to visit. The uncertainty around its place as a working building over the next five years means that now is as good a chance as any to visit the Mother of all Parliaments.
