In response to the many junior doctors getting in touch with Mike Freer, he rose to speak in an Opposition Day Debate on 27 October 2015.
Mr Freer raised concerns about the perceptions among junior doctors that they would be losing, rather than gaining, from the proposed changes to junior doctors’ contracts.
Mr Freer said: “most of the junior doctors that I have seen believe that the reforms will increase their working week, leading to more fatigue and therefore jeopardising, not improving, patient safety.”
He expressed that this may have something to do with the effectiveness on the part of the Department of Health in communicating this policy.
The Member for Finchley and Golders Green also raised concerns about those in the medical profession who face being penalised for leaving the frontline and pursuing a career in research, by being held back on their progression pay.
It was also queried whether the DoH had done an impact assessment on London's junior doctors, and the amount of premium pay that takes up the wage bill in London hospitals.
Overall the MP for Finchley and Golders Green gave his support to the reforms but asked that the Department look into the specific points he raised.
