Mike Freer MP has welcomed the Chancellor’s announcement that the Government will support the London Borough of Barnet and the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) plans for the regeneration of Brent Cross. During his final Budget before the General Election, the Chancellor, George Osborne, announced that the Government will contribute £97m towards to financial costs of building a new rail station, and a ring fence of the local 50 per cent share of business rate growth. The scheme has the potential to spark one of the largest and most exciting development and regeneration opportunities in the Country, double the size of Brent Cross Shopping Centre, provide 7,500 new homes and support 27,000 jobs.
Upon hearing the announcement, Mike Freer said: ‘The additional support that the Chancellor has announced for the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration scheme is welcome. This new financial support will help unlock additional rail capacity in the area, and improve links to central London for the 7,500 new homes of all tenures planned for the scheme.’
Mayor of London Boris Johnson: ‘Today’s announcement of funding for Brent Cross Cricklewood is a result of a great campaign by London Conservatives, including Mike Freer MP. We are determined to get this development moving quickly.’
