Yesterday, Mike held one of his Evening in Westminster events at the Houses of Parliament, inviting members of the 5 Bells Computer Club. This is a neighbourhood organisation based in Barnet which aims to combat loneliness amongst older people by providing digital support to allow them to access the communicative opportunities of modern devices.
The purpose of these events is to allow constituents the opportunity of engaging with their local Member of Parliament and to experience a tour of the Palace of Westminster, something that remarkably few people Mike meets have been able to do, despite the Palace being free and open to the public.
The event included a refreshments reception in the Jubilee Room, followed by a tour of some of the highlights of the Palace such as Westminster Hall, St Stephen's Hall, and Central Lobby. Mike was then able to invite attendees into the public gallery of the House of Commons to watch he and his colleagues as they voted on that day's legislation.
