05/01 - 11/01
This was the first week back following the Christmas Recess which I spent in the constituency. The first event of the week was to welcome members of St Mary’s Church in Finchley Central to Westminster for a Q&A session.
I also welcomed pupils from Whitefield School to Westminster this week, again for a Q&A session.
I regularly hold Meet Your Street events and the latest group to visit were from Abbots Gardens in East Finchley. They enjoyed a tour of the Palace of Westminster as well as an informal reception.
Later that week, I met with officials from Barnet Council to discuss planning issues before featuring on LBC on Friday evening.
That weekend, Kinloss’ new Rabbi was inaugurated and I had the pleasure of attending the event. I wish Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence all the best in his new role.
12/01 - 18/01
The week began with a meeting on Monday morning regarding bus services to Finchley Memorial Hospital. I am campaigning for better access to the Hospital and was therefore pleased to secure agreement from TFL that a survey of bus usage would take place. This will determine if and when a bus service could be implemented.
I later met with a local student to discuss the Youth Parliament and young people in politics.
Tuesday began with a meeting on the National HIV Prevention Programme. I am delighted that the Government will continue to run the programme which has a profound impact upon HIV rates.
I later met with the head teacher of St Mary’s School in Finchley to discuss education and local issues.
Equality issues are central to many of my campaigns which is why I spoke in the House of Commons in favour of female bishops in the Church of England. The Minister joined me in welcoming the CofE’s first female bishop, the new Bishop of Stockport.
Friday was spent in the Constituency and began with a Mobile Surgery in Temple Fortune. I took the bus out again on Saturday visiting Finchley Central before heading over to Avondale Road and surrounding streets.
The week concluded with the Holocaust Memorial Service at Middlesex University in Hendon.
