The week began in earnest with Monday’s vote to recognise Palestine as an independent state. I resigned my position as PPS in order to oppose the vote which would have enabled terrorist organisation, Hamas, to achieve their aims without the need for negotiations. I don't oppose an independent Palestinian state but I disagreed with a pre-emptive declaration before peace negotiations. My position has been covered widely in local media and a full statement is available on my website.
Prior to the vote taking place, I attended the AGM of the APPG on Bangladesh.
On Tuesday I hosted two constituents for tea in the House of Commons. I later met with Education Minister, Nick Gibb to discuss bullying in schools before heading over to a Diwali event.
I also met with representatives from Kingfisher PLC to discuss various issues including community relations around their B&Q store in Cricklewood.
Later on in the week, I hosted member of the Somali Bravanese community in Westminster. This event was in response to the visit myself and local MPs made to their community centre which was tragically destroyed by an arson attack earlier in the year.
Friday was a busy day as MPs have been debating the EU Referendum Bill introduced by my colleague Bob Neill MP. I support giving constituents the right to have a say on our membership of the EU which only a Conservative Government can deliver.
On Friday afternoon I headed over to Noah’s Ark Hospice in Barnet with neighbouring MP Theresa Villiers to see the excellent work they are doing locally.
I was out again over the weekend in Golders Green and elsewhere, and hosted a surgery at the Allotment Hut in the Railway Cottages in Cricklewood.
