I began the week with a number of appearances in the House of Commons chamber. Firstly, I spoke at Defence Questions to question the Minister about diversity in our armed forces. I asked that the forces better represent the society they protect. I later spoke at length in the debate on religious slaughter, to defend halal and shechita which are important to many of my constituents.
Later that week, I had a meeting with the Cyprus All Party Parliamentary Group where Famagusta and the occupation of Cyprus was discussed. I had attended an interesting meeting regarding the political situation in Iran where the need for democratic reforms featured on the agenda. That evening, I met a group of constituents to give them a personal tour of the House of Commons.
My campaign for better access to Finchley Memorial Hospital continues. On Thursday I met with the Chairman of the Royal Free NHS Trust to discuss the situation and potential ways forward. I subsequently hosted an awards ceremony in Parliament on behalf of People 1st, who are based in East Finchley and help coordinate apprenticeships across the hospitality industry.
Friday saw my Mobile Surgery visit East Finchley. Over the weekend I spoke at the National Student Pride event at the University of Westminster as well as visiting the Separated Child Foundation, who are a charity providing essentials to lone children arriving in the UK.
