Mike Freer MP delighted to hear the Prime Minister’s Announcement on security funding
During last night’s annual Community Security Trust dinner, the Prime Minister, David Cameron announced £11.5 million of additional funding to help improve security for Britain’s Jewish community. Since 2010, the Government has provided £2 million a year for security guards at 39 maintained faith schools, but Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer has been campaigning for this support to be expanded to 220 other buildings deemed to be at risk.
The measures announced by the Prime Minister include:
· £3 million to protect synagogues and other potentially vulnerable Jewish community Buildings.
· £7 million of new money to fund guards for more than 100 Jewish private schools and colleges.
· £1.5 million for the CST to build a state-of-the-art control centre for its operations.
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement, Mike Freer MP said: ‘During recent months I have held meetings to discuss this issue with the Home Secretary, Education Secretary, Culture Secretary, and raised this matter directly with David Cameron during Prime Minister’s Questions. I am delighted that the Prime Minister has announced the creation of this counter-terrorism package, which will fund security at schools, synagogues and community centres not just in Finchley and Golders Green but across the UK.’
