Monday 11/01
At the start of the week I was invited to speak to a student group of Friends of Israel at University College London. I discussed Israel’s image in British Politics and the future prospects for developing greater links between the UK and Israel.
Tuesday 12/01
On Tuesday morning I took part in a debate regarding the Global Fund and the need to tackle the spread of HIV and AIDS. One of the main problems with treating people who have contracted HIV is that they are too worried to be tested because of the stigma associated with having the disease. I urged the Department for International Development to work with organisations to address this.
Thursday 14/01
I had the pleasure of visiting Whitefield School at the end of the week to meet with the recently appointed Head Teacher, Liz Rymer. After a quick tour of the school I had an opportunity to talk to the students about plans for the school as a result of the proposals to re-develop the land in the surrounding area. I also congratulated the pupils and staff on improving the reputation of the school.
Friday 15/01
I met with the Acting Borough Commander, Paula Light at Colindale Police Station on Friday. We discussed plans the police have to prevent crime, and bring to justice those who have committed crime. It was welcome news the number of burglaries taking place in the constituency has gone down since the police put in place a new robust anti-burglary strategy before the New Year.
Following my meeting with the Acting Borough Commander, I visited Bishop Douglass School to see how the new Head Teacher, Martin Tissot is bringing discipline and good behaviour to the school.
Sunday 17/01
January is an important month to my Jewish community and other local residents who have suffered from genocide. The annual memorial service was held at Middlesex University and attended by local dignitaries and Members of Parliament. The official Holocaust Memorial Day will take place on 27th January 2016.
