On Sunday, Mike visited St John's Wood Synagogue to take part in the Blow for Hostages event. Thousands of people all over the world, including in Cancun, Jerusalem, and New York, blew shofars and whistles simultaneously as a rallying cry for the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas since the horrific attacks of October 7th.
This was a moving display of solidarity with the 134 people who have been ripped from their loved ones by Hamas, and was attended by a host of public figures such as actress Dame Maureen Lipman and broadcaster Vanessa Feltz.
Mike had the opportunity to address attendees, and sought to reiterate his longstanding support for Israel and the British Jewish community. In affirming Israel's right to self defence, Mike paraphrased the words of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in saying that “if the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel.”
